Must be getting under a few skins this season, with a new Facebook group created "Ayr Utd are dirty Bs and sfa need"

My only concern with this group is the request to be investigated by the Court of the Lord Lyon regards the use of the Saltire on the club badge. There is of course past history with a similar example in Fromantine United.
Really hope it comes to nothing but a precedent has already been set so could be interesting if it develops.

One minor bonus.. think of the sale of items in the club shop which would become collector's items  ;D ;D

Does it show who started the group? I'm guessing a Dunfermline fan?  ;D

I fully agree with these comments.

Balloon Boy

bring it on.....they may take our points but they'll never take our badge....

Try6Place

They'll never take our integrity.

Seems to be the work of one (very bitter) Airdrie supporter.
I think Airdrie had a problem with their club crest when they went from Airdrie United
back to Airdrieonians.
This nutter seems to think he can get us fined by the Lord Lyon's office as payback for beating his team and 'hospitalising' one of their players.

Think the idjit is getting mixed up with the lion rampant. This allegedly should only be used by the queen. No problem us using the saltire.

Stan the Man

Don't know who the eedjit is but the Formartine problem related to the SALTIRE and not the lion rampant. They had to remove the saltire from their badge!!

shuggie sproat

The Lord Lyon does have a say over the lion rampant being used officially, but the Saltire is a different kettle of fish.
This clown from Airdrie instigating this is a total bampot.

TonyH

I thought the problem related to the use of 'heraldic symbols' , i.e. our badge being contained within a 'shield'.

shinglis

I think the main issue, is the use of the Saltire within the badge, similar situation to Formartine Utd.

Old Badge : http://www.futbol24.com/upload/team/Scotland/Formartine-United.png

New badge: https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/8/85/Formartine_Utd.png/200px-Formartine_Utd.png

I don't really think anything will come of this, as I suspect it's probably been reported before by a similar dis-grunted fan somewhere. Also had a brief discussion with club historian Duncan on the matter, who seems to think Ayr would have a good case to retain and the badge may actually be registered but not been able to confirm.

It is explained in detail here: http://www.scotsman.com/sport/football/call-to-arms-over-threat-to-scottish-club-badges-1-3746851. The article states you cannot use a Saltire as its incorporation within arms is strictly regulated as it would suggest national approval.

Airdrie got in to trouble when somebody (unknown) tried to trademark the badge... the problem with it was the use of letters 'AFC' within a shield. They remedied this by simply removing the shield. Not sure how far the Lord Lyon would have taken it if they hadn't amended the badge - I couldn't imagine it ending up in Court.

Well according to the Ayrshire Post we will have to get a new badge ....

shinglis

Ok reported in the Ayrshire post and a new FB page created :
https://www.facebook.com/Saveourayrbadge/?fref=ts

But can I start the counter debate that changing the badge might be a good thing ? There has already been some comments on FB that other teams have changed the badge both for commercial and advertising issues and given the current teams form, engaging with the local community over this issue and develop a new badge could be seen as a positive engagement ?

ayrG

Think that's a good point Shinglis. A chance for Ayr to rebrand themselves, get a competition started in the Ayrshire Post, bring some spotlight to the club. Maybe we'll even get a bumper crowd on Saturday!
